Summary

Welcome to Your Place in a Worldview Minority

In an increasingly secular society, those who have a biblical worldview are now a shrinking minority。 As mainstream culture grows more hostile toward the Bible’s truths and those who embrace them, you’ll face mounting pressures—from family, friends, media, academia, and government—to change and even abandon your beliefs。 But these challenges also create abundant opportunities to stand strong for Christ and shine light to those hurt by the darkness of our day。

In Faithfully Different, author and apologist Natasha Crain shares how you can live out your faith with conviction, discernment, and courage。 You’ll be equipped to
identify and respond to today’s most significant worldview pressures, such as cancel culture, secular social justice, progressive Christianity, deconstruction, virtue signaling, and more
engage effectively with a world that ridicules biblical truths
defend your faith from misguided influences and live as a bold witness for the Lord
As the standards of our day mutate and devolve, Faithfully Different will give you the insight and encouragement you need to believe, think, and live biblically no matter what you face in these turbulent times。

Natasha Crain does a fantastic job with explaining how Christians can reclaim a Biblical worldview while we live in a culture that continues to put a stronger focus a secular worldview。 The first two sections of the book do a great job setting up the need for a Biblical worldview in our culture。 The third section does a great job explaining how to combat some of the common arguments you hear about why a Biblical worldview is "dangerous。" This book is a must read for Christians in todays day and Natasha Crain does a fantastic job with explaining how Christians can reclaim a Biblical worldview while we live in a culture that continues to put a stronger focus a secular worldview。 The first two sections of the book do a great job setting up the need for a Biblical worldview in our culture。 The third section does a great job explaining how to combat some of the common arguments you hear about why a Biblical worldview is "dangerous。" This book is a must read for Christians in todays day and age who are struggling to find a Christians place in society。 。。。more

Good information, but I found her writing style very dry。 Even as I found the content valuable, this was not an enjoyable read for me。

Every christian today needs to consider their worldview and how it aligns with the Bible。 This book is a well thought out discussion of worldview and the impact on our cultural issues we see today。 Understanding your view and the views of others is key to weeding through the chaos of today!

This is an interesting new release on a theme that means a lot to me。 How do we continue to be a faithful Christian witness in a culture that can often times be indifferent or even hostile to our belief system? I mentioned to a friend that reading Faithfully Different by Natasha Crain reminded me of fishing。 Tangled lines and birdsnest reels happen。 When they do, they shut you down until someone (usually not yourself) comes along with the skill and patience to help you unravel the knotty mess。 That's what this book does。 It unravels the knots so many of us are experiencing as we try to live faithfully in the various twists of post-Christian American society。 Other books have addressed similar issues: I I mentioned to a friend that reading Faithfully Different by Natasha Crain reminded me of fishing。 Tangled lines and birdsnest reels happen。 When they do, they shut you down until someone (usually not yourself) comes along with the skill and patience to help you unravel the knotty mess。 That's what this book does。 It unravels the knots so many of us are experiencing as we try to live faithfully in the various twists of post-Christian American society。 Other books have addressed similar issues: I think of Carl Trueman's The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self。 But where Trueman assays history to unriddle how western culture came to adopt identity-forming beliefs which run crossways of foundational cultural norms, Crain's book unwinds the present messy moment。 Specifically, Crain unpacks the secular (secularist?) worldview。 It rests on four pillars: feelings are the ultimate good, happiness is the ultimate goal, judging is the ultimate sin, and God is the ultimate guess。 Patiently, with a guiding hand, Crain walks the reader through how secularism has become the dominant worldview and how that worldview has become so deceptively attractive to many, including Christians, especially those walking through doubts and redefining faith along the lines of deconstruction or Progressive Christianity。 Her analysis accounts for so much cognitive dissonance felt today; however, Faithfully Different is way more than dry analysis。 It provides readers wisdom, insight, and tools to interact shrewdly with secular culture。 Particularly helpful is the discussion of "moral marketing" in Chapter eight。 Using her background as a marketing executive, the author demonstrates how the familiar AIDA funnel functions in contemporary discussions of virtue and vice。 The application of this model elegantly explains what's going on with virtue signaling and related mechanisms of moral authority。 In the hands of secular activists, redefinition, normalization, and celebration work together to change the popular moral consensus。 Christians who believe God has spoken authoritatively on such subjects as the self, sexuality, and justice in society will be necessarily at odds with the resulting moral messages。 But we shouldn't be surprised。 We are called to be salt and light within a decaying society。 Emphatically, this book is not a manifesto for the culture wars, on which Crain asserts, "While we may wish it were otherwise, and we should grieve over what we see, we have to resist the temptation to feel like discouraged or disgruntled losers。" Christians are now in a worldview minority。 Her final chapter reminds the reader that the gospel is still good news for a world that has tangled its vision of what "good" looks like, and if we want to help those who are caught in it, Christians must be willing to live faithfully different lives。 This book would be excellent for small group study, men's or women's groups, reading clubs, pastoral staffs, or anyone seeking to sort out their practical theology of Christ and culture。 Taken together with Trueman's trenchant treatment of the self under modernity, Faithfully Different promises readers clarity and challenge to help re-calibrate our spiritual and moral compass and navigate the rough waters of secularized society。 。。。more

There are books that are good for Christians to read, and then there are books that should be “required reading。” This book definitely needs to be on the “required reading” list。 In fact, I recommend that you buy two copies - one for yourself that you’ll want to highlight and make extensive notes in, and a second that you’ll want to lend to friends until they realize they need their own copy to highlight and make extensive notes in。 I’ve read all of Natasha Crain’s books。 They’re all excellent, There are books that are good for Christians to read, and then there are books that should be “required reading。” This book definitely needs to be on the “required reading” list。 In fact, I recommend that you buy two copies - one for yourself that you’ll want to highlight and make extensive notes in, and a second that you’ll want to lend to friends until they realize they need their own copy to highlight and make extensive notes in。 I’ve read all of Natasha Crain’s books。 They’re all excellent, and a worthy addition to the library of every Christian home。 This one is in a different category from her other books, and very quickly gained a spot on my “Top 10 books every faithful Christian needs to read” list。 “Secularism is everywhere we go today。 We can’t escape it, but we can better equip ourselves to live with biblical clarity given the reality of it。” (p。 61) This quote from the book actually is a great summary of the book itself。 The first part of the book is spent showing the truth of the statement “secularism is everywhere we go today。 We can’t escape it…” The rest of the book is an excellent primer to “better equip ourselves to live with biblical clarity…” In fact, as Crain states on page 62, “We need clarity of belief to shape clarity of thought, and clarity of both belief and thought to provide clarity for living。 When we regain biblical clarity in all three areas, our faithful differences will transform us into the salt and light we’re called to be。” She follows this up by providing that clarity, one piece at a time, in writing that is deep and rich, yet accessible for even the most reluctant of readers。 Each chapter includes plenty of well-sourced information and finishes with lists of excellent resources for those who want to dig deeper, along with questions for reflection that make this a terrific resource for small group or individual study。 。。。more

This is an eye-opening look at our current culture。 The first part of the book, Natasha Crain breaks down how our worldview is shaped and influenced, and honestly, it's a little discouraging to read how much secular culture has overtaken Biblical values, even within the church。 But she doesn't leave you there。 The subsequent sections/chapters are full。 of encouragement and tools for living as a Christian in a world increasingly hostile to Biblical values。 'Faithfully Different' is worth reading, This is an eye-opening look at our current culture。 The first part of the book, Natasha Crain breaks down how our worldview is shaped and influenced, and honestly, it's a little discouraging to read how much secular culture has overtaken Biblical values, even within the church。 But she doesn't leave you there。 The subsequent sections/chapters are full。 of encouragement and tools for living as a Christian in a world increasingly hostile to Biblical values。 'Faithfully Different' is worth reading, if only to be able to recognize how culture is affecting our values and beliefs。 But it does much more than that, equipping readers like me to be able to have difficult conversations in a loving, God-honoring way。 。。。more

(Crain 253)。 I especially appreciated Natasha Crain's chapter 11, "Recommitting to Speaking Truth -Under the pressure of secular cancel culture。" It gave me four questions to consider before speaking the truth。 And this is so important, because as Christians, we need to seek a Biblical approach to speaking the truth, not for our own glory, but to do it for the glory of God!Natasha Crain has been gifted by God to help us navigate a secular world! Western Christians have had the privilege of living in a culture that accepted many of our beliefs and made many of the same assumptions about the world we do。 It made it easy to get comfortable。 It made it easy to pretend all our neighbors were Christians。That’s over now。 It’s no longer normal to be a traditional Christian in our culture。 Secularism is the way everyone thinks now。 Secularism isn’t just not-religion; it is very specific assumptions about the world and the way things ought to be。 Western Christians have had the privilege of living in a culture that accepted many of our beliefs and made many of the same assumptions about the world we do。 It made it easy to get comfortable。 It made it easy to pretend all our neighbors were Christians。That’s over now。 It’s no longer normal to be a traditional Christian in our culture。 Secularism is the way everyone thinks now。 Secularism isn’t just not-religion; it is very specific assumptions about the world and the way things ought to be。 And these ideas are very seductive, even for Christians。 However, if we’re careful and intentional, we can maintain (or, if necessary, regain) the biblical worldview, which includes the supernatural, meaning determined by our creator, and objective moral truth。 Crain lays out the biblical view on things we ought to believe, how we should think, and the way we ought to live。 Each chapter ends with some recommended reading for those wanting to explore the topic further and questions for discussion or reflection (good for private meditation or group discussion)。There is a lot of good stuff here, but the thing that makes this book unique is where Natasha applies her marketing background to the way secularism slowly wins people over to its way of thinking。 It’s insidious。 And perfectly organic。 It appeals to what fallen humans want and pressures those who resist。 Being aware of it will help you defend yourself against it and reaffirm biblical morality。 This chapter is worth the purchase price for the book。This is one for parents and non-parents, for college kids and pastors。 The church needs to figure out how to resist the secularizing forces in our culture。 The world is starting to push on us in a way it hasn’t before in the West。 We will be conformed to the pattern of this world if we do not take steps to push back。 And if we fall, will our kids be able to resist? I don't give 5 stars lightly。 That is reserved for books that everyone needs to read。 This is one of them。 。。。more
